    Wider Opportunities

    Music Tuition

We recognise the importance of providing the opportunity for our pupils to learn a musical instrument.  Children across school are invited to sign up to music lessons delivered by Rock Steady Music School, where they have the chance to learn an instrument of choice within a band setting, and work towards performing in front of the whole school.

    After School Enrichment Clubs

At Lord Street, we offer a wide range of after-school enrichment clubs to widen children's opportunities and to enable them to develop different skills.  These clubs vary according to the time of the year and the interests of the children, identified during pupil voice, student council meetings and through UNCRC focus groups.

In order to allow our children to experience a wide variety of clubs and develop their interests and skills; clubs are generally run over a half-term.  We have run clubs for Netball, Football, Arts and Crafts, Forest School, Mandarin, Book club, Science, Coding, Blog club, Cooking, Coding, Choir, Lego, Dance and Drama as well as many others. We are always thinking of new clubs to add to our repertoire and welcome any other suggestions.

    Wider Curriculum - Trips

Cultural capital is the essential knowledge that children need to prepare them for their future success. At Lord Street, we provide a wide programme of educational visits over the year for each class. These include visits to galleries, museums and theatres, as well as residential trips. Residential trips have in the past involved trips to Paris, and outdoor centres.  Our educational visits link closely to learning in the classroom and add another dimension by bringing the topic to life by adding hands-on and experiential opportunities. These opportunities are continually reviewed and refined to link closely to both the school curriculum for learning and the cultural capital needed for our pupils.

    Library Visits

Research proves that regular access to books makes you a better reader. Therefore, we have visits to the library in town and a mobile library visit ensuring children experience and understand the benefits of being part of a library and the wealth of resources it has to offer.
